About Botox

Botox is a well-known brand name for Botulinum Toxin “a natural protein” used to temporarily relax muscles. It is administered by injection. The active ingredient Botulinum Toxin is available in the Netherlands under various brands such as Botox, Azzalure and Boucutoure. In the cosmetic world, it is used as a highly effective remedy for wrinkles. Medically, Botulinum Toxin paralyzes the nerves that control the muscles thereby blocking the “tightening signal” between the nerves and muscles in the skin. The result is that muscles temporarily slacken (can no longer contract properly) and wrinkles are smoothened. After some time (3-5) months, the muscles recover completely so the effect of a botox treatment is temporary.

Applications and effects of Botox

Botox has both cosmetic and medical applications. In the cosmetic industry, Botox is primarily used to reduce wrinkles and prevent new ones. A major cause of wrinkles on the face are due to facial expressions such as frowning and smiling (facial expressions). Every time you make a move, a crease is created in the skin. As we age, the skin is less flexible and springs back less and less well over time, and so wrinkles develop. What Botulinum Toxin simply does is inhibit the transmission of a stimulus from the nerve to the muscle. This prevents the muscles from contracting, or contracting (less well), and smooths out fine lines and fades deep wrinkles. In the medical field, Botox is used against excessive sweating (anti-perspiration), teeth grinding and migraines. You are also welcome at Oran Aesthetics for these treatments.

What does a Botox treatment look like?

1: Free intake interview

During an intake interview, you will have the opportunity to meet with one of our physicians. You tell what you are coming for and what you want to achieve with treatment. After assessing the area(s) to be treated and your overall health, our expert physician will advise you what is best for your situation. Everything regarding treatment and costs will be discussed with you. If you are convinced you can choose to be treated immediately and otherwise you can schedule a follow-up appointment.

2: Formality: photos and forms

You have chosen to receive treatment at Oran Aesthetics. Several photos are always taken beforehand. In addition, you will be given two digital forms to sign. The first is a “health statement” about your health to determine your suitability for treatment and the second is a “consent form.” This is a form with information about the Botox treatment in question including possible side effects and complications.

3: The treatment itself

After the doctor has properly informed you about the treatment, she (or he) always begins by cleaning and disinfecting the area. Botox treatment falls under injectables, meaning that the liquid is administered by injection. A botox treatment usually takes 5-10 minutes depending on the number of areas to be treated.

4: Immediately after treatment

A botox treatment falls under a lunch-time treatment. That is, you can actually return to work immediately after treatment. Importantly, immediately after treatment, you should not lie down for the first four hours, exercise for 24 hours, or visit the sauna or tanning bed for one week. You will receive aftercare information.

5: Monitoring appointment

Two weeks after treatment, you may come in for a checkup so the doctor can assess the results and answer any questions you may have. Post-photos are also taken and can be compared with the photos taken before the treatment.

Why at Oran Aesthetics?

Safety

You do not have to worry about the safety of Botox treatment. Botulinum Toxin is covered by drug laws and was extensively tested for effectiveness and side effects before it was allowed on the market by the government. As with all drugs, you do need to seek treatment from a licensed physician (big registration) who specializes in the field and is knowledgeable about the product.

The result of a botox treatment

A properly performed botox treatment provides a wrinkle-free natural look without any motionless or tightened facial features. Our experienced doctors always consider the extent of the problem and the natural lines of your face. Thus, they know exactly how to inject the right amount of active ingredient in the right place to achieve a naturally desired result. You will find that a botox treatment usually begins to work after only two days. You will then be less able to tighten the treated muscles. After a few days, you will see the final result become visible. The maximum effect is achieved after 2 weeks. The effect will last for 3 to 5 months.
